For the past several weeks, I have been trying to learn something new. I have been learning video editing using Da Vinci Resolve editing software. In the beginning, I endeavored to just watch the tutorials available on YouTube. Then, once I felt more knowledge, then I could dive in and get to work on making YouTube videos as a podcast. Well, my brain doesn't work that way, I guess. I learn best by doing, so that's what I did.
I made a fake video of basically me rambling unscripted for a few minutes about what I planned to do with the videos and all that. Then, I started the editing process. I found it easier to learn as I went. For instance, I would have a clip that I wanted to enhance in someway, with graphics or titles or something. That's when you go to YouTube and search for a video on that subject. Like I said, the resources are endless. Currently, I do a weekly "week in history" type video, called Culture Cafe and the podcast Coffee Before Pants on a biweekly basis, which is usually about books, reading, and sometimes film. I have been doing an audio podcast for around a year now. Now, it's both audio (wherever you listen to podcasts) and video. I invite you to check it out. Also, it seems every week I learn another trick and each week I feel like my videos are getting more, well, professional looking. I guess I'm pretty proud of that. There's a link above to go to the YouTube channel, if you're interested. I'm also getting better at not looking like I'm reading a script. It turns out that there are also videos on YouTube regarding learning to improve your voice. I admit, I spend too much time on YouTube, but it's rarely to watch dog videos. Rarely. That's all I have for now. As I posted before, many irons in the fire but, to mix my metaphors, I'm also getting better at juggling the irons. Peace, and as usual, I hope you are reading something you enjoy.
